Why we prefer browser-local processing
Keeping the file on your device means it does not travel to a server we operate. It is faster, and it removes a whole class of privacy questions about what a server does with an uploaded document. Where a future tool cannot run in the browser, we will say so plainly on that tool's page and describe how it works before you use it.
How we verify our claims
We test each browser-local tool with synthetic files and check that the output is correct and that no document is uploaded. The How it works page explains how you can confirm this yourself.
