How it works

  1. Add the PDF you want to mark.
  2. Type the watermark text, for example CONFIDENTIAL or DRAFT.
  3. Select Add watermark and review. Your text is drawn diagonally and semi-transparent across every page, then the file opens for review. Download or share it when ready.

Limits

Browser-local. The watermark is drawn as semi-transparent text over each page (up to 120 characters). Beta limits: desktop up to 40 MB and 400 pages; mobile devices up to 15 MB and 150 pages. Password-protected PDFs are not supported.

Common questions

Is it safe to add a watermark to a sensitive document?

Yes, your document's privacy is protected. The watermarking process runs entirely in your browser, which means your file is never uploaded to our servers. It remains securely on your device.

Can I customize the watermark text and appearance?

You can customize the text of the watermark. The tool automatically places the text diagonally across every page of the PDF. Advanced options like color, font, or position are not available in this specific tool.

Is there a limit to the number of pages I can add a watermark to?

The free version of our tool allows you to add a watermark to PDFs up to 25 pages long. If your document is longer, you will need a paid plan, which supports files of any size.

Will adding a watermark make my file much larger?

No, adding a text-based watermark should not significantly increase your PDF's file size. The text is added as a small element to each page, so the change in size is usually negligible.
