How it works
Add the PDF you want to read.
Select Extract text and review.
A plain .txt opens for review. Download or share it when ready.
Limits
Browser-local. Reads the PDF's embedded text layer and saves it as a plain-text file, one blank line between paragraphs and a page break between pages. It keeps the words, not the layout: columns, tables, and styling are not preserved. Scanned (image-only) PDFs have no text layer, so run OCR first to add one, then extract. Password-protected PDFs are not supported.
Common questions
Is my document's content kept private during text extraction?
Yes, your document's content remains private. The PDF is processed entirely within your web browser, and its data is never uploaded to a server. The text is extracted locally on your machine.
Will this tool extract text from a scanned PDF?
This tool extracts existing text from a PDF. If your PDF is a scan or image without a text layer, you must first use an OCR tool to recognize the characters. After OCR, you can then extract the recognized text.
How much text can I extract from a PDF for free?
The free tool allows you to extract text from a single PDF at a time, up to a limit of 25 pages. For documents longer than 25 pages, you will need a paid subscription.
Does the extracted text keep its original formatting?
No, this tool converts the PDF content into a plain text (.txt) file. This means all formatting like fonts, colors, columns, and tables will be removed, leaving only the raw text content.
